Implementation

This article covers questions about the implementation of FARYNOR.

What databases does the system run on?
The system has been designed to operate on the Microsoft SQL Server database, however, there are no problems expected in running the system on alternative platforms such as Oracle.

Does the system work in a mobile context?
The system has been designed to be portable onto any Windows platform, for example, PDA, Laptop, Notebook etc. However, the exact implementation on a mobile context needs to be assessed very carefully before it can proceed. For instance, the type of mobile communication used may influence the choice of the amount of data that is made available to a mobile user, for example, if full time access is used, say over GPRS, then it would be prudent to limit the amount of traffic that is generated as response times can then be kept to sensible levels. Alternatively, if a dock and sync approach is used then all data can be made available but rules need to be set up to define how data is synchronised given that two users may make changes to their local copies at the same time.
Advantage have extensive experience of managing applications in a mobile context and would be delighted to discuss your particular requirements. Please use the Contact section of this web site should you need such advice.

Can the system make use of historical information already owned by the Fire Service?
Yes, migration of existing information can be performed to make historical data available in the new system. Related information can also be linked using the in built electronic document management system.
