Tokio Marine (RiskNet)
Tokio Marine is the oldest and largest property, casualty and marine insurance company in Japan. Their European subsidiary, Tokio Marine Europe Insurance Ltd (TMEI) insures global Japanese companies who have operations in Europe. A key process in TMEI's business operation is as follows: specialist engineers perform survey visits to the insured companies, and complete spreadsheets containing data which will allow underwriters to assess the risks inherent in providing insurance for the company and hence set suitable premiums. The data gathered includes financial data, safety and risk information, and the engineer's recommendations for risk reduction.
Advantage captured and analysed TMEI's requirements, and designed and developed a new n-tier web-enabled system called RiskNet. This consists of a dedicated server running a bespoke newly-developed Oracle database and the middle-tier intranet web site, accessible on client machines through Internet Explorer browser windows. RiskNet incorporates the following functionality:
-
upload facilities to import survey spreadsheets and legacy data;
-
a range of bespoke reports querying all company and survey visit data can be generated;
-
the system can be operated from any client machine with network access
-
secure access for 6 European offices has been set up, and is currently being extended and rolled out to other regions.
RiskNet was developed, including full testing and documentation, in less than 6 months. A support & maintenance contract, including a dedicated helpdesk system, has also been set up. Other ongoing developments include: limited access for TMEI's customers, partial translation of the system into French, and extra reporting and processing functionality.
